Precision practice tools in one dark glass app: chromatic tuner with Equal, Just, and Pythagorean temperaments on iPhone, metronome with mixed-meter maps and exportable click tracks, practice recorder with Auto-record / Autoplay, and a lean journal. Everything stays on your device unless you export or share it.
Tuner
Chromatic auto-detect with note, octave, cents, and Hz. Color feedback locks green near in-tune; the gauge updates smoothly with low jitter. On iPhone, temperament modes sit under the readouts for ensemble, piano, and solo practice.
- Equal (12-TET) — default. Twelve equal steps between octaves. Use when you play with piano, harp, mallets, or any fixed-pitch instrument.
- JustPro — key-relative pure intervals (5-limit). Pick a tonic (e.g. D); thirds and fifths lock to pure ratios so chords stop “beating.”
- PythagoreanPro — pure-fifth chain (3/2). Leading tones sit sharp and half steps tighten for expressive solo lines.
- Key / transposition — concert or common band & orchestra keys so the display matches your written part (separate from temperament tonic).
- Tone / drone — sustain a reference pitch (with optional fifth). Voices: Pure, Warm, Reed. Octave − / +.
- Multi-pitch tonePro — stack up to four pitches for interval and chord drones that follow your temperament.
- MM ModePro — blind practice, multi-pitch results, piano A/B, scores, journal export.
- A4 calibration — reference pitch 415–466 Hz in Settings. Tonic of Just / Pythagorean is pinned so A4 still matches your room.
- Input meter — signal strength and live dBFS (0 = digital max; normal levels are negative), plus a clear no-signal state.
Engine & range. Pitch uses the McLeod Pitch Method (MPM) — monophonic period detection. Typical range is about 40–2800 Hz (~E1–F7). Overtone scoring prefers the fundamental when a strong partial lights first. Noise-floor–relative gates and median smoothing help soft notes and decay tails.
- Strong fit — single sustained notes: brass, winds, voice, bowed strings, guitar midrange, piano midrange.
- Weaker — multiphonics, chords, percussion, extreme bass/treble, very soft distant piano, noisy rooms.
- Piano string stretch is not fully modeled; final piano temperament still needs the ear.
Metronome
Professional click with intelligent meter feel, mixed-meter maps, and a loud clean Strike voice that follows system volume. Lookahead Web Audio scheduling keeps time rock-solid.
- Tempo — 30–300 BPM (felt beat or ♪ pulse, depending on count), tap tempo, − / +, presets. Double-tap the big number to reset (120 single meter; ♪ = 240 in Map).
- Time signature & count — common meters plus compound/additive feels (e.g. 6/8 In 2 / In 6, 5/8 2+3 / 3+2, 7/8 groupings). BPM converts so pulse speed stays true when you change count.
- Map (mixed meter)Pro — loop bars with different time signatures on a shared eighth-note pulse (♪). Sample loop, up to 16 bars, per-bar repeats (×1–×8), save up to 3 named maps, bar strip and quick-load chips while Map is on.
- Export click track — from the Map sheet: WAV for GarageBand / live / band practice (Strike samples, grouping accents), MIDI for DAWs, and a re-importable map file (.centsmap.json). Loops, count-in, and Share pack for AirDrop / Files — no DAW required for a stage click.
- Subdivision — labels match the meter (x/4: Beat · 8ths · Triplets · 16ths; x/8: 8ths · 16ths · Triplets · 32nds).
- Accents — tap pads to weight beats; stronger on group heads and map accents.
- Across tabs — start the click, then use Tuner, Record, or Journal; status chip stays available.
- Practice timer — global session timer from every tab.
Record
Practice recordings stay on this device. Clear capture modes, library tools, and a floating player that doesn’t fight your scroll.
- Record — manual start/stop with level meter and waveform while capturing.
- Auto-record — hands-free: listens for you, records the phrase, stops after silence. Distinct from Autoplay.
- Autoplay — after a recording saves, plays it back for review (works after manual or auto capture). Optional; leave off for silent capture only.
- Library — star recordings, All / ★ filter, swipe left to delete (hint stays pinned under the list), bulk select for export/delete, A/B compare (chip + guided pick 2).
- Focus player — mid-screen glass card with soft dim: play/pause, scrub, −5s, share, and A|B switch when comparing. Stays until you dismiss so you can re-listen.
- Metronome + record — run the click or drone while recording; screen stays awake during Auto-record.
- Quality — AAC/MP4 when supported for best mobile quality and sharing.
Journal
Lean practice journal with streak, week dots, and a full-screen editor — compact chrome so the list stays primary.
- Streak & week — compact streak hero, seven day dots, collapsible “This week” with days / minutes / recordings and a weekly day goal (Off · 3–7d).
- Search & filter — search beside All / ★ on one row.
- Entries — title, rich text (bold, lists, headings), mood, minutes, linked recording, photo, voice memo, location. Prompts and draft autosave for new entries.
- Star & share — favorites and system share when available (desktop and mobile).
- Delete — swipe left or delete from the editor. Linked recordings stay in Record.
